In a significant development, Valve has officially announced its intention to reverse VAC (Valve Anti-Cheat) bans for Counter-Strike 2 players who found themselves penalized for employing AMD’s Anti-Lag+ feature.
Earlier this month, concerns were raised when Counter-Strike 2 players with AMD GPUs discovered that enabling Anti-Lag+ could lead to VAC bans, causing frustration and confusion within the gaming community.
The Anti-Lag+ feature, as Valve explains, functions by “detouring engine dll functions,” a process that inadvertently triggered consequences detrimental to Counter-Strike 2 players who activated it.
However, Valve has taken steps to rectify this situation by implementing a “startup check for incompatible AMD graphic drivers,” paving the way for the reversal of bans for “affected players.”
In addition to addressing the VAC ban issue, Valve also took the opportunity to resolve other notable problems. One such fix pertained to a bug within Windows 11’s Auto HDR, which was responsible for “smokes intermittently disappearing” during gameplay. The update also included the customary but unspecified “miscellaneous bug fixes.”
Nevertheless, amidst the flurry of discussions surrounding the VAC bans and a clamor for features perceived as “missing” from the game, one concerned player raised an essential question: “What about the negative effects on those of us who played alongside these affected players? We received notifications claiming we were playing with a cheater, and our reputation took a hit.”
As of now, Valve has not provided a response to this query or outlined potential measures to address these concerns. Players affected by this issue await further communication and potential compensation.
Counter-Strike 2, launched at the end of September, marked a significant overhaul for Valve’s renowned PC shooter series. Digital Foundry’s Will Judd expressed enthusiasm for the revamped Counter-Strike, emphasizing the positive reception it garnered in the gaming community.
