Sonic Frontiers made its debut this week and it did it on the right foot, because although it is far from the ideal experience, fans welcomed it and gave very good comments on it.
In the end, however, it turned out to be a very attractive project, as it broke one of the records the IP had on Steam.
This title had a simultaneous release on consoles and PC on November 8. It was expected that this new Sonic game will break records and on Steam it is doing so. This is because the title enjoyed the best opening day hours of any game in the series.
This is thanks to the SteamDB database, which provides statistics of the titles on this platform. What is really interesting is that on the night of its release day, Sonic Frontiers was able to gather 19,181 users playing at the same time.
The numbers may not be very surprising compared to other very popular games, but it’s quite an achievement for SEGA’s franchise.
No game of the series in its 31 years had achieved this on Steam. That record-holder title was Sonic Mania, who managed to have 11,937 users playing simultaneously in August 2017, when it made its debut on PC. The gap, as you see, is quite wide.

Based on information from SteamDB, out of all the reviews that users on Valve’s platform played the title, a little more than 90% is positive, meaning that the vast majority was pleased and indirectly invites others to try this title.
It’s important to note that Sonic Frontiers is only available on PC through Steam, so the base of players who wished to try the title on this system was not divided among other platforms.
Sonic Frontiers, though, is expected to also arrive on the Epic Games Store on an unconfirmed date, in accordance with the title’s official page.
We unfortunately can’t talk about how Sonic Frontiers has done on other platforms, although if we extrapolate what we’ve seen on Steam, it is very likely that on consoles the title has been well received.
How do you feel about Sonic’s new adventure, have you already played it? Let us know in the comments.
Sonic Frontiers will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC.
