Game of Thrones aficionados have been met with some unfortunate news. While the filming of House of the Dragon’s second season is ongoing in Spain, the recently revealed prequel, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, has had its production put on hold indefinitely.
George R.R. Martin, the mastermind behind the Game of Thrones books, delivered the update, stating that the writers’ room has temporarily shut down in solidarity with the writers’ strike occurring in the United States.
In a post on his blog, Martin shared, “The writers’ room for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight has been closed for a while.” He added, “The showrunner Ira Parker and his incredible team of young talents are on the picket lines,” a move that Martin, also a writer for the series, supports.
Fortunately, the scripts for House of the Dragon’s second season were completed months ago, so its filming, which began on April 11, remains unaffected.
Continuing the Game of Thrones Saga on the Max Platform
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight will take place a century prior to the events of Game of Thrones. The story will focus on Ser Duncan the Tall, a young, naive, yet courageous knight, and his small squire, Egg.
During this era, the Targaryen bloodline still reigns over the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon lingers in the minds of the living. This period sets the stage for “great destinies, mighty foes, and perilous deeds” that await the unlikely duo.

In line with the upcoming Harry Potter series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight is slated to premiere exclusively on the Max platform, which will succeed HBO Max upon its launch at an undetermined date.
Presently, it remains unclear whether the seven most powerful houses of Game of Thrones will make an appearance in this prequel.
