As Marvel fans continue to revel in the joy of the third installment of Guardians of the Galaxy, the return of their beloved team of heroes and their thrilling encounters with various threats and adversaries have captivated audiences worldwide.

In this film, the team’s quest for a tranquil existence is disrupted when Rocket becomes the target of the High Evolutionary, an intergalactic psychopathic villain. Throughout the movie, the Guardians must unite to safeguard their raccoon friend from this fearsome antagonist.

The Revelation of a Deleted Scene as Canon

Recently, James Gunn, the director of the film, confirmed that a deleted scene from the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 holds canonical significance. This revelation sheds light on a crucial detail regarding the narrative.

The plot of the third installment revolves around the Guardians’ battle to protect Rocket from the High Evolutionary, an individual obsessed with dissecting beings in pursuit of the “perfect species.” While it was initially believed that the High Evolutionary met his demise when his ship exploded, the true fate of the character remained ambiguous until the revelation of the deleted scene.

The Surviving High Evolutionary

The deleted scene showcases Rocket imprisoning the villain, revealing that the High Evolutionary survived the ship’s explosion. It becomes evident that Drax rescued him before the ship’s demise.

Although fans initially speculated that the deleted scene might not be considered canon due to its omission from the final cut, James Gunn responded to a fan’s query on Twitter, stating, “I think it’s canon. It’s definitely canon that we get to see Drax saving him when they save the animals.”

By affirming the scene’s canonical status, the director clarifies that the High Evolutionary survives and is subsequently confined in Knowhere’s prison, where he spends the remainder of his life. This revelation opens up the possibility of further exploring his storyline in a potential Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 4.

Resolving Confusion and Revealing Heroism

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

While the canonical status of the deleted scene may not significantly impact the overall story, its revelation resolves any confusion surrounding the High Evolutionary’s fate. Moreover, it highlights the Guardians’ acts of heroism, as Drax, despite being a deranged villain, decides to save him before Rocket incarcerates him. This development provides a concluding arc for the character within the larger story.

With James Gunn’s clarification, fans can now embrace a deeper understanding of the High Evolutionary’s journey and the choices made by the Guardians. The deleted scene’s canon status not only enriches the storytelling but also showcases the complexity and growth of these beloved characters in the Guardians of the Galaxy universe.
