France has been gripped by violent riots following the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old driver by a police officer on the outskirts of Paris. Macron identifies video games as one of the culprits behind the crisis.
Video Games and Social Media Blamed by Macron
Taking to Twitter, Macron expressed his concerns about the role of video games and social media in exacerbating the ongoing riots in France. The president believes that the abundance of recordings circulating on social media platforms encourages more people to join the riots and emulate aggressive behavior.
Macron emphasized that those participating in the riots are “recreating what they have learned from video games that have corrupted their minds.” Additionally, he pointed to “poor upbringing” as another contributing factor to the current problems. In response, the French government is actively working to remove the most “sensitive content” related to the riots from social media platforms.
It is important to note that the teenager who was shot by the French policeman had been apprehended due to dangerous driving and driving without a license. However, the 17-year-old refused to cooperate with the officers and attempted to escape. Prior to this incident, the teenager had already been convicted of drug trafficking.
While the tragic shooting incident serves as a catalyst for the riots, President Macron’s focus on video games and social media highlights his concerns about the potential influence of online platforms on escalating tensions and encouraging violent behavior.
