In an extraordinary display of popularity, Palworld, a crafting game inspired by Pokemon, has shattered sales records by selling over 7 million copies within just five days of its launch.
This remarkable achievement, attained exclusively on PC, sets a new benchmark in the gaming industry. The developer, Pocketpair, is now gearing up to expand the game’s horizon with an exciting roadmap, despite not having sales figures or Game Pass download numbers on Xbox Series X|S yet.
Expanding the Palworld Experience
Palworld has sold 7 million copies in 5 days on Steam alone.
(I have confirmed with Pocketpair this is a Steam only number, not including Xbox sales or GamePass.)

Looking ahead, Pocketpair has outlined an ambitious roadmap for Palworld. Players can anticipate the introduction of an arena mode for player versus player (PvP) combat, a feature that allows the trading of Pals globally, and significant updates to the building system. These upcoming features aim to enrich the player experience and add new dimensions to the game.
Pocketpair’s CEO, Takuro Mizobe, acknowledges the challenges of integrating PvP into Palworld, especially considering the high standards set by existing games in the genre. Mizobe emphasizes the importance of offering a unique PvP experience that stands out, highlighting the use of Pals in battle as a distinctive element. He stresses the necessity for Palworld to provide compelling reasons for players to engage in PvP to ensure its longevity in the competitive gaming landscape.

In addition to PvP and Pal-trading, the roadmap includes the introduction of raid bosses, cross-play functionality, and new Pals. These updates are designed to refine the survival elements of the game, promising a more immersive and dynamic gaming experience for players.
Despite its successful launch, Palworld has not been without controversy. The game has faced accusations of asset theft, and modders have encountered issues with Nintendo’s stringent copyright enforcement policies. These challenges underscore the complexities of game development in an era where intellectual property rights are increasingly guarded.
As Palworld continues to evolve and expand its features, players and enthusiasts alike eagerly await the implementation of these exciting new elements. The roadmap lays out a promising future for Palworld, one that could potentially redefine the standards of crafting and survival games.
