Sarandos dismissed the rumored project involving Fincher as “just a rumor,” seeming to dash hopes of a US-based iteration of the violent survival drama.
Squid Game became a global phenomenon upon its debut in September 2021, holding the title as Netflix’s biggest series launch ever. The Korean thriller’s second season is set to premiere later this year, continuing the story of Seong Gi-hun’s quest for revenge against the VIP orchestrators of the deadly competition.
Given the massive popularity of Squid Game, rumors swirled that Netflix might look to capitalize further by developing an English-language remake spearheaded by Fincher, known for dark, gripping films like Seven and Fight Club. However, Sarandos has asserted these rumors are false for now. A remake is likely unwarranted given the original series remains ongoing.
