Vin Diesel recently confirmed the next Fast & Furious film will likely be the saga’s last, teasing an epic, emotional farewell for the blockbuster franchise.
In an Instagram post following a story meeting with writers, Diesel described the team’s excitement for the “finale” as “incredibly powerful.” He thanked fans, whose passion has fueled the series’ success and evolution over two decades.
Diesel promised the ending will be a “celebration” of the “incredible family” built through the films about outlaw street racers turned saviors of the world. While not all good things last forever, he hopes to deliver a finale that makes fans proud.
The next installment, currently dubbed Fast X, is slated for release in 2023. Director Louis Leterrier has hinted it could spawn two sequels, but Diesel’s post suggests the franchise will conclude with just one more chapter.

Several Fast & Furious spinoffs are also in development, so the main saga ending doesn’t mean a total farewell. A female-led offshoot starring characters like Michelle Rodriguez’s Letty is reportedly in the works.
But after over 20 years and 10 films, it’s still an end of an era – especially with Diesel’s Dominic Toretto as the heart of the “family.” The movies delivered increasingly outrageous stunts and unlikely global threats, but retained an emotional core about loyalty and chosen bonds.
Diesel promises the grand finale will celebrate that spirit while bringing the story full circle. Expect some nostalgic references to the series’ street racing roots before riding off into the sunset.
The Fast saga revolutionized the action genre through diverse casting and unlikely topics like chosen families. Diesel and the team now hope to stick the landing with a celebratory, poignant farewell worthy of their blockbuster legacy.
