Horror fans have a new reason to get excited, as director Robert Eggers has unveiled the first trailer for his highly anticipated remake of the classic vampire film “Nosferatu.” Showcased during CinemaCon, the ominous footage promises a gothic, unsettling take on the iconic story.
The trailer opens with a haunting scene of Lily-Rose Depp’s character, a devout young woman, praying earnestly by candlelight. “Come to me, come to me, hear my call,” she intones, before a hand suddenly reaches out to grasp her neck, setting the tone for the chilling events to come.
From there, Eggers’ camera sweeps across a bleak and foreboding landscape, capturing the essence of the original 1922 silent film. Dilapidated castles, wintery villages, and scurrying rats all hint at the presence of some primeval, unseen force – a force that will soon cast a shadow over everything.
Amidst the moody, atmospheric visuals, the trailer offers glimpses of the film’s star-studded cast. Bill Skarsgård, trading in his iconic Pennywise makeup for the razor-sharp fangs of Count Orlok, is seen hunched over in a bat-like crouch, suggesting a truly terrifying take on the vampire lord. Blood gushes from necks, and stake-wielding villagers attempt to battle the unseen forces that have descended upon them. As Lily-Rose Depp’s character ponders, “Does evil come from within us or from beyond?” the trailer suggests that the answer in “Nosferatu” will come from both realms, blending the personal anguish of its characters with the primal, supernatural horror that threatens to consume them.
