In a move to avoid controversies plaguing other PlayStation titles coming to PC, Sucker Punch Productions has confirmed that playing the single-player campaign of Ghost of Tsushima on PC will not require a PlayStation Network (PSN) account.
This exemption stands in contrast to the recent mandating of PSN logins for Helldivers 2 PC players after launch, which sparked backlash and review bombing on Steam.
The acclaimed 2020 PlayStation 4 exclusive Ghost of Tsushima makes its way to PC on May 16th via developers Sucker Punch and port masters Nixxes Software. While a PSN account will be necessary for the game’s online Legends multiplayer mode and to access the PlayStation overlay, players can dive into the single-player samurai adventure without linking to Sony’s network.
“You won’t need a PSN account to play the single-player game Ghost of Tsushima on the computer,” stated the official Sucker Punch account, providing clarity in the wake of the Helldivers 2 PSN login controversy. This allays concerns about geographic restrictions and security issues some PC players voiced regarding mandatory PSN integration.
Thank you for your feedback.
Just so you are aware, A PSN account is required for Legends online multiplayer mode and to use PlayStation overlay. It is not required to play the singleplayer game.

Ghost of Tsushima, lauded for its cinematic recreation of feudal Japan and hard-hitting samurai combat, stands as one of PlayStation’s most successful first-party titles. As more PlayStation games find their way to PC, companies like Sucker Punch are carefully navigating the new landscape.
By making the single-player portion optional, the Ghost of Tsushima PC port avoids the pitfalls of PSN controversy while still giving players a way to experience its multiplayer and integration features if desired. It remains to be seen if future ports will follow this approach or maintain PSN as a requirement across all modes.
