As the highly anticipated “Deadpool & Wolverine” approaches its July 26 theatrical release, director Shawn Levy has ignited fan excitement by hinting at a plethora of character cameos in the upcoming Marvel film. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Levy revealed that while cameos won’t drive the main narrative, they will be “peppered throughout” the movie.
“We didn’t want any of the cameos or characters to be the story of the movie. But they are peppered in throughout. There’s a lot of characters,” Levy explained. He added that the internet has been abuzz with rumors about potential cameo appearances, stating, “Some rumors are true, some are way off base.”
The film, which marks Deadpool’s official entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), stars Ryan Reynolds reprising his role as the Merc with a Mouth alongside Hugh Jackman, who returns as Wolverine. Reynolds expressed initial uncertainty about Deadpool’s place in the MCU following Disney’s acquisition of Fox, but is now set to bring his irreverent superhero to a broader audience.
One confirmed cameo is Aaron Stanford, who will reprise his role as Pyro from the original X-Men films. Stanford expressed excitement about finally donning a proper superhero costume, a departure from his previous appearances where he was either in “jammies” or “dressed in an ensemble from Hot Topic.”
The plot revolves around Wade Wilson facing an existential threat to his homeworld, forcing him to team up with a reluctant Wolverine. The duo will reportedly embark on a multiverse-spanning adventure, potentially altering the MCU’s history. Emma Corrin joins the cast as the main antagonist, Cassandra Nova, described as Professor Charles Xavier’s evil twin sister who poses a threat to the multiverse.
Other confirmed cast members include Morena Baccarin, Stefan Kapicic, Matthew Macfadyen, Leslie Uggams, Brianna Hildebrand, and Shioli Kutsuna. Jennifer Garner is also set to return as Elektra, adding to the film’s star-studded ensemble.
