At their TennoCon event this year, Digital Extremes gave fans their first deep dive into Soulframe, the studio’s hotly anticipated new fantasy MMO. In a nearly 20-minute gameplay demo, they showed off characters, combat, and some truly epic beast encounters coming to the game.
We got to see Verminia, a new Ancestor character who can help with crafting. She’s a nasty rat witch – I can’t wait to try her out! They also revealed the Nimrod, this massive lightning bear that will no doubt crush unsuspecting players. Combat looks super action-packed between magic skills and hand-to-hand brawling.
Character creation is taking a cool approach too. The physical traits you pick for your mom will affect how your player character looks, so plan wisely! The story prologue was beautiful as well – really pulled me into the unique world they’re building.
Creative director Geoff Crookes hinted we may get our hands on Soulframe this fall as an early access beta. If it’s anything like the Rock and Stone of Warframe, the support will go on for years. Digital Extremes knows how to craft lasting online games.
This was our biggest look yet at the systems and enemies within Soulframe. With the developer’s proven track record, I have high hopes it could become my new obsession! Fingers crossed we get invites to the beta soon.
