Digital Extremes just revealed some huge news for Warframe fans – they’re taking us on a trip back in time with a brand new expansion called “Warframe: 1999“! Dropping this winter across all platforms, it looks absolutely bonkers.
We’ll get to explore an alternate version of Earth stuck in the year 1999. Think neon colors, chunky electronics, and boy bands everywhere. The story follows special Protoframe characters as they race to stop Dr. Entrati before midnight on New Year’s Eve.
I lost it when I heard we can romance the Protoframes through an old school instant messenger. Warframe is notoriously shy about that stuff, so hearing big names like Ben Starr and Amelia Tyler actually voicing these characters has me super hyped.
Of course, there’s also a new Warframe – Cyte-09 is a total badass with perfect aim. Plus you can ride an Atomicycle that lets you drift and jump all over the place. So cool!
But the best part? We have to fight mutant 90s boy bands. Like, imagine NSYNC but infected with technocyte disease. Terrifying!
They’re adding skins that swap between Warframe and Protoframe looks too. With full voice lines – it’s like getting two characters in one.
After seeing the explosive gameplay showcase, I can’t wait to blast my way through this totally bonkers 90s world. It’s a huge change of pace for Warframe. Mark those calendars folks – the 90s are back this winter!
