Celebrated actress Nicole Kidman has expressed interest in exploring intense horror genres in future film projects. In a recent interview with L’Officiel USA magazine, the 57-year-old Oscar winner said she wants to take on more frightening roles. “I’ve not done classic horror yet. Hardcore horror,” Kidman stated. “I’m putting it out there, because I watch hardcore horror.”
Kidman is known for diverse performances in movies across different genres. She has starred in psychological thrillers like The Others and Stoker. However, she has yet to perform in mainstream horror films. The actress said she is a fan of director Ti West, who makes scary movies like X, Pearl, and MaXXXine. Kidman also wants to potentially work with Australian filmmaker James Wan, best known for horror films, on a terrifying project.
While Kidman has starred in big-budget superhero movies like Batman Forever and Aquaman, she said those decisions were not driven by money. “I get to kiss Batman,” she recalled of her role opposite Val Kilmer in Batman Forever. Kidman explained she chooses roles based on unique experiences rather than financial gain. She had initially hoped to collaborate with James Wan on a scary film when offered her role in Aquaman.
Throughout her four-decade career, Kidman has shown remarkable versatility. She has won an Oscar for her portrayal of author Virginia Woolf in The Hours and produced acclaimed TV shows like Big Little Lies and The Undoing. The American Film Institute honored her significant contributions to cinema with a lifetime achievement award. As she continues evolving as an artist, Kidman’s stated interest in a hardcore horror role suggests new and frightening territory for the celebrated actress.
