One of the most popular characters from the hit Apple TV+ series “Ted Lasso” will have a lesser role in the upcoming fourth season. Philip Dunster, who plays the talented but self-centered soccer star Jamie Tartt, will no longer be a regular cast member. Entertainment reporter Matthew Belloni revealed Dunster may make some guest appearances but his time on screen will be significantly reduced.
This change comes from scheduling conflicts with other acting jobs Dunster has taken. He is committed to the Prime Video thriller “The Devil’s Hour” where he plays Mike Stevens. Dunster also joined the cast of Apple TV’s drama “Surface” in a season two role. With commitments to both shows, he no longer has availability to be a series regular on “Ted Lasso.”

While Jamie Tartt won’t play as central a part, many familiar faces will still play important roles. Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, and Jeremy Swift will reprise their characters of Rebecca Welton, Roy Kent, and Leslie Higgins according to reports. Negotiations continue for actors with union contracts such as Juno Temple, Jason Sudeikis, and Brendan Hunt who portray Keeley, Ted Lasso, and Coach Beard respectively.
Co-creator Jason Sudeikis initially conceived “Ted Lasso” as a three season story. Though the emotional season three finale wrapped up many plots, it still hinted at possible future episodes. With its blend of charm, wit and thoughtful exploration of mental health, “Ted Lasso” has resonated widely, winning numerous awards and praise. As filming for season four begins, fans look forward to seeing how the show continues its stories and adapts to the new circumstances.
