“Venom: The Last Dance” to Introduce Powerful New Villain

Sony's Spider-Man Universe prepares for epic conclusion as new villain Knull emerges

The upcoming comic book film “Venom: The Last Dance” is set to introduce a formidable new antagonist. Knull, the self-proclaimed “King in Black” from Marvel comics, will make his live-action debut in the film. Knull first appeared in Marvel comics in 2018 and is known for creating the symbiotes. His addition signifies a serious escalation in the threat level faced by Eddie Brock, played by Tom Hardy, and his symbiote partner Venom.

Fans are speculating about how Eddie and Venom will handle such a powerful foe. Some theorize that Hardy’s Eddie Brock could team up with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, from the Marvel Cinematic Universe films, to fight Knull. This could help connect Sony’s Spider-Man Universe to the larger MCU. While his appearance in the film has been confirmed, the actor portraying Knull has not been announced. Norman Reedus, known for “The Walking Dead,” is a popular choice among viewers. Reedus’ ability to command attention and franchise experience make him a suggested candidate for the role.

Despite anticipation over the new villain, some fans may be disappointed to learn the film will keep its PG-13 rating. Sony Pictures wants to reach a broad audience and prioritizes box office profits over an R-rating, according to an entertainment insider. This continues the approach of previous Venom films, which faced criticism for their tamer portrayal of the historically violent antihero. However, R-rated comic book films like “Deadpool” and “Kraven the Hunter” have found financial success, leaving some fans wanting a grittier Venom installment.

Directed by Kelly Marcel, the film concludes Tom Hardy’s tenure playing Eddie Brock and Venom. Hardy returns alongside cast members Chiwetel Ejiofor, Juno Temple, and Stephen Graham. “Venom: The Last Dance” is billed as the most ambitious chapter yet in the Venom franchise. As the final film, it may set up Sony’s greater superhero universe going forward. Tickets for the October 25 release are set to go on sale October 1, heightening expectations for this climactic showdown between Venom and his deadliest opponent to date.
