Studio 100 International will introduce a spin-off film focused on two ants fans love from the beloved “Maya the Bee” series. Called “Arnie & Barney,” the movie will tell the story of the title characters who find themselves embarking on an unexpected heroic journey. It is scheduled for release in 2026.
The story follows Arnie and Barney, recurring ants from “Maya the Bee” known for their funny misadventures. During a severe drought, the bumbling duo uncover a water racket plot and team up with a mysterious superhero mosquito. Together they set out to save their meadow home from the dangerous drought conditions.
Producer Thorsten Wegener of Studio 100 International said the film holds special meaning. “It’s about how unlikely heroes can rise to challenges,” he explained. With humor and adventure, the movie aims to appeal to both longtime fans and newcomers.
Providing voice talent for Arnie and Barney are the Australian comedy team The Umbilical Brothers, Shane Dundas and David Collins. Known for their creative work, the pair will lend their unique comedy to the ant roles. They also helped write the script alongside Fin Edquist, experienced in animated films.
Studio 100 International and Studio Isar Animation will jointly produce the animation project. 3 Doubles Producciones will assist with services. To expand awareness, the studio will unveil “Arnie & Barney” to the film market in Las Vegas this fall.
By shining a light on fan-favorite minor characters, the decision shows confidence in their story potential. As anticipation builds, industry insiders will watch how the spin-off captures the heart that has made “Maya the Bee” a classic for many years.
