Fans of fantasy cinema will soon embark on a supernatural voyage. George R.R. Martin’s 1982 short tale “In the Lost Lands” will be released in theaters on February 28, 2025. The new film promises to tell a riveting story of magic and mystery.
Director Paul W.S. Anderson has collected an all-star cast, including Milla Jovovich and Dave Bautista, to bring Martin’s complicated story to life. Jovovich will play Gray Alys, a strong sorceress hired by a desperate queen to navigate a dangerous magical realm. Bautista will co-star as Boyce, her guide across the dangerous terrain.
“With ‘In the Lost Lands’, we’ve created a movie with a unique visual style,” Anderson told Variety, emphasizing the film’s original approach. The director, best known for his work on the “Resident Evil” series, intends to use cutting-edge technology to bring Martin’s story to life on film.
The project extends Martin’s storyline beyond his well-known “A Song of Ice and Fire” trilogy. The original short story, part of the Amazon II collection, follows Gray Alys on a treacherous journey through a world full of supernatural threats and mythological animals.
Martin has heartily welcomed the adaptation, describing it on his blog as “dark, twisted, atmospheric, and a lot of fun.” Depending on the film’s success, the author has even suggested further stories involving Gray Alys.
Anderson, Jovovich, Bautista, Constantin Werner, Jeremy Bolt, Robert Kulzer, and Jonathan Meisner co-produced the film, which Vertical will distribute.
Fans of fantasy and action will enjoy this one-of-a-kind film adaptation, which promises to highlight Martin’s writing and the explosive performances of its major actors.
