A mistake on the packaging of Mattel’s new “Wicked” movie collectible dolls led people to an adult entertainment website instead of the movie’s official website, which caused much debate.
The special edition dolls, which starred Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande as characters from the upcoming musical, were supposed to have a link to wickedmovie.com. Customers found out, though, that the printed web address goes to an adult content site that checks users’ ages.
The web link, which only has the word “wicked” on it, takes people to a page created in 1993 in Canoga Park, California. The adult entertainment company is known for making material that makes fun of well-known movies.
One person on X wrote, “Whoever did this needs to be fired right away because why would they do that knowing that most people buying these dolls are kids?” This shows how worried many people are.
The toys, which can now be bought at big stores like Target, Amazon, and Kohl’s, caused a lot of excitement in the past. While the dolls were coming out in July, Erivo posted on Instagram that it was “a dream come true” to be shown as “little Cynthia and little Ari.”
The mistake on the package has especially scared parents and collectors since the dolls are meant for younger fans. People quickly told others about the wrong web link on social media, which led to calls for Mattel to fix the problem.
As of now, Mattel has not publicly replied to requests for comment about the mistake on the packaging or possible steps to fix it.
The event shows how important it is to carefully examine product packaging, especially for items meant for kids.
