Sony Pictures Television and Movistar Plus+ have agreed to work together on a lot of material, which means that in 2025, Spanish viewers will be able to watch five new TV shows and six independent films.
The deal intentionally expands Movistar Plus+’s programming schedule, now including various popular shows from different styles. At the heart of the deal are five TV shows that promise to keep fans interested with great stories and big stars.
The first show is “Doc,” a medical drama with Molly Parker as Dr. Amy Elias, a doctor rebuilding her life after losing her memories for eight years. Based on an Italian show, the show will be shown for the first time in other countries in January.
Another great movie is “Dope Girls,” a crime story set in the past made by Bad Wolf Studios. The show, which stars Julianne Nicholson, is about a single mother in London in the 1920s who has to deal with the city’s criminal underground to support her daughter.
The package also includes Peacock’s original movie, “Long Bright River,” in which Amanda Seyfried plays a police officer in Philadelphia who investigates murders in a city being destroyed by the drug crisis. Jacob Elordi plays the lead role in “Narrow Road to the Deep North,” a movie based on Richard Flanagan’s Booker Prize-winning book about love and war.
Fans of the “Outlander” series will enjoy “Outlander: Blood of My Blood,” a prequel that tells the love stories of Jamie’s parents in Scotland in the 18th century and Claire’s parents during World War I.
Sundance selections “I Saw the TV Glow” and “Tuesday,” starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus, are among the films that add depth to the deal. “Summer Camp,” with Diane Keaton, Alfre Woodward, and Kathy Bates, is another film that does this.
Mark Young, Executive Vice President of Distribution and networks for EMEA at Sony Pictures Television, discussed the importance of the deal. “These TV series showcase the breadth of our offering and generated significant excitement during the LA Screenings,” he said.
Even though premiere dates have yet to be set, the partnership shows that Movistar Plus+ is dedicated to bringing top foreign shows to Spanish viewers.
For streaming services, interesting and varied material is still what keeps people interested. Still, this deal shows how things are changing.
