NBC’s latest comedy “St. Denis Medical” surprised predictions, with a huge increase in viewership during its first week on television. The show’s inaugural episode received 7.4 million viewers across all platforms, representing an astonishing 85% growth over its initial broadcast.
The workplace comedy, set in an under-resourced Oregon hospital, instantly drew viewers in with its distinctive depiction of healthcare professionals’ daily struggles. Its performance in the critical 18-49 demographic was especially impressive, rising from an initial 0.51 rating to a staggering 1.44 rating—an 182% gain.
In an increasingly sports-focused broadcast scene, “St. Denis Medical” has emerged as a notable success. The series premiere received the greatest rating for a scripted broadcast debut without an NFL lead-in in nearly two years, finishing first among scripted programs on its first night.
The show’s second episode had a great audience retention rate, with 82% of the first episode’s viewers tuning in, totaling around 3.3 million. This constant performance indicates that the humor has struck a connection with audiences.
The series follows the lives of dedicated doctors and nurses working in a stressful hospital environment. Its ensemble cast includes Josh Lawson, Mekki Leeper, Kahyun Kim, and Kaliko Kauahi. The show takes a funny but realistic look at the problems of healthcare professionals in an underfunded medical system.
Universal Television and Spitzer Holding Company produce the series. Spitzer and Ledgin write and executive produce it. Simon Heuer also serves as executive producer, and Ruben Fleischer directs the pilot episode.
