Tony Todd, an actor known for his strong roles in horror movies and science fiction shows, died at his home in Los Angeles on November 6. He was 69 years old.
Fatima, Todd’s wife, revealed that he had died after a long illness. The actor left a remarkable impact that spanned over four decades. He was in more than 200 movies and TV shows, which showed his versatility.
The scary part he played in the 1992 movie “Candyman” made Todd a major figure in the horror genre. His performance as Daniel Robitaille, a hanging victim whose ghost could be called by saying his name five times, showed how strong and good he was at acting.
“I got stung 23 times” while shooting “Candyman,” Todd once told The Guardian, which shows how dedicated he is to his job. “Everything worth making has to involve some sort of pain.”
Todd’s work included much more than scary movies. He made important contributions to science fiction, especially to the Star Trek series, where he played many parts, such as Kurn, Worf’s brother, in “Star Trek: The Next Generation” and “Deep Space Nine.”
Among his TV roles were ones in hit shows like 24, The X-Files, and Law & Order. Todd has become a popular voice actor in recent years, adding his unique bass voice to animated shows and video games. For example, he voiced Darkseid in Lego DC Comics Super Heroes: Justice League.
Todd was known for more than just being funny. He was also a social activist. He led acting classes for kids who didn’t have much and participated in gang prevention work. “I’ve used Candyman as an introductory tool in gang intervention work,” he said, talking about how he dealt with tough social issues.
On Instagram, New Line Cinema praised Todd and called him “a legend” and “a cherished friend.” Jobs were coming up for him at the time of his death, such as doing voice work for the video game “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.”
Todd’s death is another big loss for the entertainment business in 2024. Other famous people who have died include James Earl Jones and Dame Maggie Smith.
He was married to Fatima and had many children. He was known for giving powerful performances in many types of movies and inspired many fans and other artists.
