Music fans can expect a festive surprise as Apple TV+ and Apple Music release a special edition of the popular Carpool Karaoke series. This holiday chapter, titled A Carpool Karaoke Christmas, features chart-topping musicians Lady Gaga, Dua Lipa, and Chappell Roan, who take viewers on a musical adventure through Los Angeles, Tokyo, and Springfield, Missouri.
The unexpected special broadcast on Sunday night ushered in a new chapter for the series after its initial run finished in June 2023. In a wonderful twist, Apple Music’s Zane Lowe takes over for former host James Corden, driving the artists through their holiday sing-along.
Viewers can expect a colorful blend of festive classics and popular songs. The artists will play popular Christmas tunes like “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” and Wham’s “Last Christmas.” They’ll also perform personal favorites such as Gaga’s “Die With a Smile,” Lipa’s “Houdini,” and Roan’s “Good Luck, Babe!”
Lady Gaga and Zane Lowe have collaborated on a special version of “Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town.” The song is available on Apple Music and other popular services.
The date of this program is significant for the featured artists. Dua Lipa’s performance special, An Evening With Dua Lipa, aired recently on CBS. Meanwhile, Chappell Roan has received six Grammy nominations, including Record of the Year and Best New Artist. Lady Gaga, a 13-time Grammy winner, continues creating news for her recent Joker: Folie à Deux performance.
“I’m delighted Carpool Karaoke is back to celebrate the holidays in true style,” added Corden, who joked that Lowe should “keep his eyes open while he sings.”
Lowe, too, voiced his pleasure, describing the event as “hands-down the most fun I have ever had in a car.” He loved being entrusted with “a very expensive car and three of music’s most exciting artists.”
This special builds on the tradition of Carpool Karaoke, which started as segments on The Late Late Show with James Corden before becoming a solo series in 2017. The show has received critical praise, earning five straight Emmy Awards for short-form series and seven nominations.
A Carpool Karaoke Christmas is now streaming in select locations and will be available worldwide on December 20th. Produced by CBS Studios in collaboration with Fulwell 73 Productions, the special continues the series’ legacy of combining music, humor, and unexpected occurrences.
