“Dune: Prophecy” on HBO is preparing for its second season after an exciting finale revealing shocking family secrets. It set the stage for a trip to Arrakis, the famous desert planet. The sci-fi show, set 10,000 years before the story of Paul Atreides, has been officially renewed, which means that fans will learn more about this beloved world.
There were some big surprises in the Season 1 finale. The bad guy Desmond Hart, played by Travis Fimmel, is Tula Harkonnen’s secret son, played by Olivia Williams. She has kept this secret from her sister Valya, who Emily Watson plays for many years. This complicated family relationship worsens the conflict, especially since Desmond’s brief reconciliation with Tula led to her arrest.
Watson stated, “Everything has changed,” as he thought about Valya’s broken outlook. She clarified that Valya still follows her sense of destiny, even though her views have been turned upside down.
The finale also marked a major shift in the story’s location. Valya is going to Arrakis with Ynez (Sarah-Sofie Boussina) and Keiran (Chris Mason). Showrunner Alison Schapker said this move was more than just a change of scenery.
“Arrakis has been exerting its pull throughout the first season,” Schapker told us. “Whether through the spice trade or the psychological imagery linked to Desmond’s past, it has seeped into everyone’s consciousness.” She believes this “mythic ‘Dune’ space” marks a major turning point for the show.
Because of his past, Desmond’s trip to Arrakis is especially important. He says he lived through an attack by sandworms that killed everyone in his unit. But Valya’s vision, caused by a virus, shows that Desmond’s recovery involved technology from thinking machines, which a mysterious person in a cloak noticed.
Olivia Williams thought the finale was important to Tula’s story. “A huge thing for Tula is when I say, ‘Please don’t kill my son, trust me, I’ve got this,'” she said. “The fact that she trusts me shows her capabilities despite being treated as the lesser sister for years.”
As Season 2 gets closer, Schapker gives hints of more surprises. “Valya will learn much more when she returns to where Desmond first showed up as an enemy.” What she finds there will be very interesting to see.
Fans are thrilled that “Dune: Prophecy” has been renewed because they can’t wait to see how these dramatic events play out, especially since the show is set in one of sci-fi’s most famous worlds.
