Walker returns as Dr. “TJ” Coleman, a first-year resident whose childhood in-flight medical emergency bound him to Dr. Amy Larsen, while Fountain-Jardim reprises Katie Hamda, Amy’s ambitious daughter now eyeing medical school. Showrunner Barbie Kligman said she “loves that relationship, that history, all of it,” promising deeper exploration of the pair’s dynamic as Amy continues to piece together the eight years erased by her traumatic brain injury.
Doc adapts Italy’s Doc — Nelle tue mani and follows Amy—played by Molly Parker—who must relearn medicine, navigate a fraught love triangle and confront hospital politics after the accident. The U.S. version premiered 7 January 2025 and quickly became Fox’s most-streamed new series, with week-two ratings climbing 40 percent in adults 18-49, according to the network.
Network president Michael Thorn credited “captivating performances” for the renewal, while Sony Pictures Television Studios president Katherine Pope hailed “exceptional writing” that merited a full-season order in an era of shrinking episode counts. Industry analysts note the expanded slate positions Doc as a potential anchor for Fox’s 2025-26 schedule and offers writers space to resolve season-one cliff-hangers, including Richard Miller’s malpractice cover-up and Amy’s stalled career comeback.
Promotion of Walker and Fountain-Jardim brings the regular cast to seven, joining Omar Metwally, Jon Ecker, Amirah Vann and Anya Banerjee, with Scott Wolf expected to recur following his character’s arrest. Fox has not announced a premiere date, but international broadcasters are expected to simulcast as part of existing season-one deals, widening exposure for the expanded ensemble.
