Hemsworth Sets Terms for Thor Return, Confirms Extraction 3 Timeline

Australian star Chris Hemsworth says he has “plenty of love left” for the Marvel hero that made him a household name—provided the next Thor chapter feels fresh. In a new interview he admitted he would only return if filmmakers “take the character somewhere unpredictable,” citing concern that audiences might tire of the same formula. He acknowledged that Thor: Love and Thunder’s lighter tone divided viewers and argued the next outing must strike a “surprise-and-delight balance” rather than chase bigger gags.

While his future in Asgard remains uncertain, Hemsworth’s other signature franchise is moving ahead. Writers Joe and Anthony Russo have finished a new draft of Extraction 3 and expect cameras to roll in 2025, setting up a likely 2026 premiere on Netflix. Hemsworth confirmed the creative team is “cracking the story now” to avoid repeating the second film’s rescue-mission template. Industry trackers believe a three-year gap between installments mirrors the series’ current production rhythm.

The actor’s schedule is already crowded. He recently endured ice-water endurance drills for the upcoming season of his National Geographic series Limitless, which explores how stress and extreme environments affect longevity. Away from stunts, Hemsworth is attached to several features, including a reported Disney take on Prince Charming that would place him in a rare straight romantic lead.

Hemsworth acknowledged the challenge of balancing franchise expectations with personal reinvention: “If I keep repeating myself, the audience will know before I do.” For now, the hammer hangs on the wall—next to a half-written script that could pull it down as soon as the right lightning bolt strikes.
