Jennifer Lawrence will receive the San Sebastián International Film Festival’s Donostia Award at a gala on Sept. 26 in the Kursaal auditorium, with a festival screening of Lynne Ramsay’s Die, My Love following the ceremony. The honor, announced today by festival organizers, recognizes Lawrence’s career across studio franchises and prestige dramas. The festival’s 73rd edition runs Sept. 19–27 in the Basque seaside city.
Organizers highlighted that Lawrence will attend in person for the tribute and screening. The new Ramsay film, co-starring Robert Pattinson, had its world premiere at Cannes this spring, marking a higher-profile return to festival competition for the actor, who also serves as a producer. Lawrence’s recent run has included independent projects and select studio work after an early-decade stretch when she anchored a top-grossing franchise while winning the Academy Award for Best Actress.
The Donostia Award is the festival’s career tribute, presented in recent years to performers and filmmakers whose work spans popular hits and auteur cinema. In announcing Lawrence’s selection, the festival set the tribute within the main program, a move that typically draws red-carpet attention and a broad public audience inside the Kursaal.
Coverage of today’s news also noted the timing: the recognition lands as Die, My Love continues its post-Cannes circuit and as the San Sebastián lineup positions multiple fall contenders for extended campaigns into the awards season. The press notice confirms that the Donostia tribute will directly precede the screening, a format the festival has used for marquee honorees to connect lifetime recognition with a current title.
Lawrence’s résumé includes four Oscar nominations and one win, for Silver Linings Playbook, part of a run that helped define the early 2010s and established her as a reliable lead across comedy, drama, and action. The Donostia announcement frames this year’s tribute as an acknowledgment of that range while anchoring San Sebastián’s closing weekend with star wattage and a new collaboration from an acclaimed director.
