Kristen Stewart and Zoey Deutch drew the spotlight at the Deauville American Film Festival over the weekend, where Deutch received the festival’s Hollywood Rising-Star Award and both actors appeared at a Canal+ and Chanel dinner that brought French and U.S. talent together in the Normandy resort town. The celebration followed Deutch’s red-carpet appearance for Richard Linklater’s Nouvelle Vague, while Stewart was seen supporting her friend throughout the evening.
The Friday night gathering took place at Les Franciscaines, a restored 19th-century convent now used as a cultural venue, and drew guests including Zar Amir Ebrahimi alongside a slate of French industry figures. Stewart, a longtime Chanel ambassador, continued her run of house looks at Deauville; fashion coverage documented a black, semi-sheer layered mini and other Chanel pieces worn during photocalls and premieres.
Deutch’s Rising-Star tribute coincided with the festival bow of Nouvelle Vague, in which she portrays Jean Seberg in Linklater’s recreation of the whirlwind shoot of Jean-Luc Godard’s Breathless. The film, shot largely in black-and-white and mixing English and French, features Guillaume Marbeck as Godard and has been positioned for a late-October limited theatrical run ahead of a November streaming launch.
Stewart’s own Deauville itinerary included a “Carte Blanche” conversation titled “My French Cinema,” where she discussed her ties to French film and shared selections meaningful to her. Earlier, she stepped out for a photocall tied to The Chronology of Water, her directorial debut that premiered at Cannes, wearing a white Chanel skirt suit that became one of the festival’s most-shared images.
Now in its 51st edition, Deauville runs September 5–14 with a program spanning studio titles, indies, and tributes, underscoring its long-standing mix of Hollywood glamour and French cultural patronage. The festival’s official partners include Canal+ and Chanel, whose backing is visible in high-profile dinners and red-carpet moments that frame the annual showcase on the Normandy coast.
