Marlon Wayans says the revived Scary Movie will zero in on both legacy slashers and recent breakout hits, naming Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Heretic, Longlegs, Get Out, Nope, and Sinners among the prime targets. The franchise co-creator also confirmed that original stars Regina Hall and Anna Faris are back, with a theatrical date set for June 12, 2026. He framed the new entry as a chance to riff on a crowded modern horror landscape while reuniting the creative team that launched the series.
The production is being mounted by Miramax with distribution by Paramount, and longtime Wayans collaborator Michael Tiddes is directing. Industry listings note preparations for principal photography in Atlanta, including stages at Tyler Perry Studios, with the Wayans brothers writing and producing alongside Rick Alvarez and veteran producer Neal H. Moritz.
Wayans has said the film aims to recapture the tone that made the first two entries click, signaling a return to fast-jab parody anchored in recognizable genre touchstones rather than scattershot pop-culture gags. That ambition dovetails with the current cycle of buzzy theatrical horror—one reason the team believes there’s ample material for fresh setups and reversals.
The franchise, which began in 2000 and grossed nearly $900 million across five films, has been dormant since 2013. The new chapter marks the first time in nearly two decades that the Wayans brothers have steered the series they created, with Hall and Faris restoring the Cindy-and-Brenda pairing that defined its early run. With a date on the calendar and casting momentum, the revival is positioned as both a nostalgia play and a commentary pass on the latest wave of elevated chillers and viral sensations.
