Will Brittain and Katherine Hughes have been set to lead The Crawling, a cosmic horror feature from writer director Christian Everhard that centers on a disgraced cop and his therapist wife whose retreat to a remote cabin spirals into paranoia when an unseen force targets their marriage. The film marks Everhard’s feature debut and includes creature effects from veterans Steve Wang and Cleve Gunderman through their Onyx Forge banner, with Everhard producing alongside Nick Donadio and Ryan March and Mike Jasper serving as co-producer.
Production took place in Michigan with a largely local crew, following earlier indications that the project would shoot in Jackson and Kalamazoo under the Altruistic Studios umbrella. Local coverage described the film’s premise as an isolated-location story involving a non human encounter with a married couple, aligning with the cosmic threat outlined in the new announcement.
The cast features Brittain, known for genre and studio work, and Hughes, whose recent credits include psychological drama. A first look image released with the casting news teased a bloodied Brittain in character, while Everhard described the production as an “exciting and ambitious shoot” and credited the Michigan team with bringing an unsettling vision to life. The filmmaker added that he grew up on horror and is eager to share the “madness” created on set.
Special effects pedigree is positioned as a selling point for The Crawling, with Wang’s past credits on notable franchise titles and Gunderman’s work across large scale genre productions. That emphasis tracks with the project’s cosmic angle, which typically leans on practical and creature driven spectacle to complement psychological tension. The film also lists Robert Lewis Stephenson among the supporting players, expanding the ensemble beyond the central couple.
Regional filming comes amid renewed attention to Midwest production corridors, where costs and locations can accommodate contained genre pieces. In Michigan, producers signaled plans to tap local talent and resources during pre production, aligning with Everhard’s comments about the crew’s role in shaping the feature. Distribution and release details have not yet been announced.
