Bowen Yang is tempering fan hopes for a third Wicked film, saying the story should end with the upcoming sequel Wicked: For Good. Speaking on the green carpet at the New York premiere, the actor explained that the two-part adaptation already gives the narrative a complete arc and responded to questions about a possible continuation by saying, “I think we leave it here.” He added a lighthearted caveat, joking that he would happily pitch a side project built around his and Bronwyn James’ characters, Pfannee and ShenShen.
Wicked: For Good covers the second act of the stage musical and brings the film series to the same endpoint as the Broadway show. The sequel arrives in cinemas on November 21, 2025, roughly a year after the first film’s release, which became a major box office and streaming success for Universal. Studio executives have not announced any plans to extend the franchise on screen beyond the second film, even as interest in a potential third chapter continues to circulate among fans.
Creative voices around the production are sending mixed but largely cautious signals. Director Jon M. Chu recently acknowledged that there are “a lot of ideas flying around” concerning what a third entry could look like, while stressing that attention remains on delivering the finale already in hand.
Ariana Grande, who plays Glinda, fed speculation during a fan Q and A by joking about the possibility of “another farewell tour,” before quickly clarifying that she had no confirmation of any further films. She spoke instead about the emotional bond cast members feel with their characters and the sense of closure that comes with audiences finally seeing the full story.
Yang’s comments land closer to the cautious side of that conversation, reflecting the idea that the cinematic adaptation should mirror the musical’s structure by ending with Wicked: For Good. At the same time, remarks from Chu and several cast members keep the door slightly ajar for future trips back to Oz, even if for now the yellow brick road appears to stop with the second film.
