Sony Pictures has unveiled a first look at the next Jumanji film, with Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan back in their avatar costumes as production gets underway in Los Angeles. Johnson shared the image from set on social media, confirming cameras started rolling on November 11 and calling the project the closing entry in the current Jumanji cycle.
In the same post, Johnson pointed to a small costume detail meant to tip the hat to the series’ roots: a dice-shaped necklace that echoes a key prop from the 1995 film starring Robin Williams. The actor said the accessory is a sign of respect for Williams and for the original story that launched the franchise three decades ago.
Sony has not released a plot synopsis, yet the new photo suggests the familiar video-game avatars may be operating outside the game. The last film ended with the Jumanji world spilling into reality, and recent coverage says the sequel will pick up from that tease, pushing the heroes into a real-world version of the survival challenge.
Jake Kasdan is returning to direct after steering Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and Jumanji: The Next Level, and he co-wrote the script with longtime collaborators. Alongside the four leads, several cast members from the 2019 sequel are expected to reprise their roles, including Nick Jonas and Danny DeVito, while newcomers such as Brittany O’Grady and Burn Gorman have joined the ensemble.
The Jumanji revival has been one of Sony’s most reliable box-office brands in the past decade. Welcome to the Jungle grossed about $962 million worldwide in 2017, and The Next Level followed with roughly $801 million in 2019, both powered by the cast’s buddy-comedy chemistry and a premise that lets the franchise reinvent its setting each time. Sony has dated the new film for a holiday launch on December 11, 2026, setting up another Christmas corridor play for the studio.
