Kevin Bacon fought back tears while honoring director Rob Reiner in an Instagram video posted Monday, speaking about the shock of losing Reiner and his wife, photographer-producer Michele Singer Reiner. “I’m not sure how to do this,” Bacon said at the start of the clip, before crediting Reiner with hiring him for A Few Good Men and calling the experience one of the best of his career.
Bacon said he chased the role partly because This Is Spinal Tap ranked as his favorite film, and he framed Reiner as a leader who set the tone on set. He described a work environment that felt disciplined without turning sour, then shifted to a memory that carried the tribute: lunch every day with Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, a routine Bacon said he has never repeated with another director. Bacon added that his wife, actor Kyra Sedgwick, often joined them during the shoot and was pregnant at the time with their son, Travis.
The tribute arrived as investigators continue to build a case around the couple’s deaths. Authorities say Rob Reiner, 78, and Michele Singer Reiner, 68, were found dead Sunday at their Brentwood home with multiple stab wounds. Their son, Nick Reiner, 32, was arrested later that night and is being held without bail, and police said they plan to present the case to prosecutors Tuesday while they weigh formal charges. Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell called it “a tragic incident” and offered condolences to the family and friends.
Other figures tied to Reiner’s circle have posted tributes in the last day, including Demi Moore, who acted in A Few Good Men and wrote that she could not find words for the loss, noting that their children grew up together and that their lives overlapped personally and professionally.
