Scream 7 Eyes $60M-Plus Global Debut as Ghostface Returns to Theaters

New forecasts point to a major launch for the Paramount-Spyglass sequel, with Neve Campbell’s return and Kevin Williamson’s directing debut driving fan interest.

Paramount and Spyglass’ Scream 7 is heading into its opening frame with strong momentum, with Deadline reporting a projected global start above $60 million that would rank as the franchise’s second-biggest debut and put fresh focus on the series’ reset around Neve Campbell’s return as Sidney Prescott. Deadline also reported a $45 million net production budget, a figure that raises the stakes for the weekend while still keeping the film in a range that horror franchises can recoup quickly with a healthy launch.

Another trade’s preview published after that report pointed to a domestic opening of at least $40 million and called it a likely contender for the year’s top three-day launch so far, showing a bullish outlook even before final walk-up business. That marks a sharp jump from earlier long-range tracking in January, when Boxoffice Pro placed the film in a $20 million to $40 million domestic opening range and flagged risks tied to cast changes, a three-year gap since Scream VI, and the shift away from the previous two films’ central storyline.

The market case for the sequel rests on a familiar engine: franchise recognition and returning legacy talent. Boxoffice Pro said Campbell’s return could raise visibility with fans and casual moviegoers, while Kevin Williamson’s move into the director’s chair adds a selling point for longtime horror audiences. Public materials list Williamson as director and co-writer, with Campbell, Courteney Cox, Isabel May, Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding in the cast.

Campbell’s press tour has also shaped the conversation around the release. Coverage from this week highlighted her comments defending her exit from Scream 6 during a pay dispute and describing her return for Scream 7 as the result of a respectful offer, a message that reframes her comeback as both a creative and business story for the franchise.

The bar is high. Scream VI opened to $44.4 million domestically and finished with $166.6 million worldwide, setting the series’ best domestic opening and a strong recent benchmark for Ghostface’s box-office pull.
