Netflix has confirmed that Ransom Canyon will return for its second season on July 23, giving the Western romantic drama one of the streamer’s prime summer slots and ending months of speculation about when fans would see Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly back on screen.
The eight-episode second season picks up six months after the first, with rancher Staten Kirkland (Duhamel) fighting to reclaim authority over his family’s Double K Ranch after being unseated as trustee, while musician Quinn O’Grady (Kelly) weighs a life in New York City against the small town she once fled. The central romance — already stretched taut by a season finale that split the pair apart — carries into the new run with its signature tension intact.
Patricia Clarkson joins the cast as Quinn’s mother Claire O’Grady, and Steve Howey recurs as Staten’s half-brother Levi. Both additions deepen the family dynamics that drive the show’s soap-operatic pulse. Ben Robson plays Oliver, described as a big-city love interest for Quinn, and Heidi Engerman takes on Sydney, “a larger-than-life character who is not to be underestimated.”
Production ran from September 17, 2025 through January 14, 2026, filmed primarily at Netflix’s Albuquerque studio hub and in nearby New Mexico locations including Santa Fe, Mora County, and Las Vegas. The estimated budget sits between $50 and $70 million for the season.
Season 1, which dropped all ten episodes simultaneously in April 2025, outperformed Netflix’s initial expectations. The show accumulated 271.6 million viewing hours — equivalent to 34.4 million views — and featured in the top 10 charts of 77 countries. Netflix renewed it within roughly two months of the premiere, a relatively swift turnaround that reflected the platform’s confidence in the numbers.
Created, showrun, and executive produced by April Blair, the series is adapted from Jodi Thomas’ book series. Duhamel and Kelly also serve as executive producers. The returning cast includes Lizzy Greene, Garrett Wareing, Jack Schumacher, Marianly Tejada, Casey W. Johnson — upped to series regular for season 2 — Philip Winchester, and Brett Cullen. Eoin Macken and Andrew Liner, who played father-and-son Davis and Reid Collins in season 1, will not return as series regulars.
