Netflix has dated The Last House, a sci-fi survival thriller directed by Louis Leterrier, for August 7 — and in the same announcement revealed a new title for the project that had spent months under the deliberately opaque working title 11817.
The film stars Greta Lee and Wagner Moura as the parents of a family of four who are suddenly sealed inside their home with no way out, forced to survive against dwindling resources while an unexplained, menacing force traps them inside. The premise sits squarely in the contained-thriller tradition of films like 10 Cloverfield Lane, scaling tension around a single domestic space rather than a sprawling set piece.
Leterrier, whose directing credits stretch from the kinetic heist sequences of Now You See Me to Fast X and Netflix’s French hit Lupin, appears here to be working in a far more restrained register. “The Last House challenges the idea of a safe haven, turning a family home into a hostile environment where survival demands unity,” he said. “This is an ordinary family’s worst nightmare, pushing them to their limits to protect each other and exposing the fragility of security — and the desperate fight to reclaim it.”
Moura, who previously starred in Narcos and Civil War, said the premise hit him on a personal level. “I was so intrigued by the notion of what it might mean to wake up one day and be physically sealed in your home — and not even understand why,” he said. “I connected with the stakes of the film and the character on a deep level because of that.”
The supporting cast includes Riley Chung, Emma Ho, Noah Alexander Sosnowski, and Gabriel Barbosa. Principal photography ran from late March through early June 2025, with production based in London. The script comes from Matthew Robinson, who wrote Love and Monsters and Dora and the Lost City of Gold. Netflix acquired the project in January 2025, at which point Wagner Moura stepped into the co-lead role, replacing Kingsley Ben-Adir, who had originally been cast opposite Lee.
The creative team behind the camera includes cinematographer Pål Ulvik Rokseth, composer Yair Elazar Glotman, and production designer Kevin Jenkins, whose previous credits include Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Leterrier produces alongside Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, Kori Adelson, and Oly Obst. Lee offered a brief tease of what audiences can expect: “You are definitely in for a surprise.”
Leterrier’s next project after The Last House is Liminal, a sci-fi thriller for Apple starring Vanessa Kirby and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.
