Their bodies lack the slick precision of conventional animation. Thread trembles. Faces shift gently. Even an idle figure appears to breathe. The irregularity makes the village feel handmade, as if every resident has been pulled from a family textile best left folded in a chest.
Eliška, a widowed innkeeper raising Bára and Jindřich, leaves home to collect a tunic and complete favors for her neighbors. The errand exposes a secret tied to Poludnica, and her children are taken soon after. The setup moves quickly, yet Eliška’s remarks keep her from becoming a blank rescue hero. She can be warm, impatient, practical, and frightened within the same exchange.
Songs Across the Village
The surface chapters are where the game feels most alive. Eliška visits a winemaker, a beekeeper, and villagers whose small stories continue as the plot moves forward. Tasks rarely demand complex reasoning. Most involve finding an object, opening a route, or speaking to the right person. Their simplicity keeps attention on the people and the pressure surrounding a woman managing an inn and two children after her husband’s death.
Stone interiors, wooden tools, clothing, and food preparation give the village a convincing period texture. Folklore is embedded in its routines. Poludnica, missing children, underground spirits, and old violence sit beneath daily labor, waiting to be noticed.
Music gives that buried history a voice. Folk songs rise during key scenes, sometimes with Slovak-language vocals, shifting the mood from playfulness to dread. “Kolovrátok” accompanies the golden-wheel sequence, where movement, music, and story pull in the same direction.

That pressure weakens when repetition takes over. Similar tunnels blur together, routes split without clear visual guidance, and the same obstacles return: spikes, falling platforms, breakable walls, low passages, and simple enemies. The village invites observation. The caves ask for endurance.
Chase sequences cause the sharpest break. Eliška must follow a creature that provides the only light, and falling behind means death. One extended run lasts several minutes with little checkpoint support. Branching paths demand quick decisions before the route has been clearly shown, while lever inputs can send Eliška into nearby hazards. Failure stops feeling frightening and starts feeling procedural.
Combat carries the same stiffness. The final encounter with Poludnica is readable and forgiving, with avoidable attacks and summoned creatures that fall in a few hits. A punishing fight would clash with the narrative focus, yet this battle still feels included from obligation rather than shaped around Eliška.

Hidden chambers contain the souls and toys of dead children, placing quiet grief inside spaces already filled with danger. Eliška repeats the same response when finding them, weakening the shock after the first discovery. A toy lying beside a child’s spirit says enough.
The ending refuses to explain every mystery. Players seeking firm answers about the village, Poludnica, and the forces beneath the earth may find it abrupt. Its restraint fits folk-tale logic. Evil is confronted, yet never translated into clean rules. The unanswered parts keep moving after the game stops.
The title makes the inn sound like the center of Eliška’s world, yet the game leaves it behind after only a few minutes. That absence costs the story valuable time with its richest setting. What remains is a brief collection of unusually clear images: blood beside bread, geese painted by a child, embroidery trembling in firelight, and a mother following thread through the dark.

Repeated corridors, fading-torch punishment, stiff combat, and lengthy chase restarts turn fear into irritation.
