Early Ticket Sales Put “Avengers: Doomsday” Ahead of Record-Setting “Spider-Man”

Early tracking shows strong demand for the December release, though a four-month sales window complicates direct comparisons.

“Avengers: Doomsday” is running roughly 65% ahead of “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” in early advance ticket sales, according to tracking data reported by The Wrap covering the first two days after Disney opened full presales this weekend. The comparison carries weight given how “Brand New Day” performed once it reached theaters, debuting with the largest domestic opening weekend on record at $365 million and crossing $900 million globally within its first weekend.

The two films arrived at their presale windows on very different timelines, a gap that complicates any direct comparison. “Brand New Day” didn’t open advance ticket sales until about 45 days before its release. “Doomsday” launched full presales roughly four months ahead of its December 18 debut, following limited premium-format sales on a thousand screens that began around Comic-Con in July. Analysts tracking the numbers note that no major blockbuster has opened advance sales this far out, meaning the early pace could soften or accelerate as the release date approaches.

Anticipation for “Doomsday” has built steadily through a summer of Marvel Studios promotion, including a footage preview at D23 and a presentation at Comic-Con alongside look-ins at “Ghost Rider” and a new “Black Panther” installment. The film marks the first “Avengers” entry since 2019’s “Endgame” and reunites Robert Downey Jr., now playing Doctor Doom, with Chris Evans’s Steve Rogers. Directors Anthony and Joe Russo return to the franchise working from a script by Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely.

“Doomsday” will also share its opening weekend with “Dune: Part Three,” setting up a box office clash for audiences and IMAX screens that echoes the situation “Brand New Day” navigated earlier this year against “The Odyssey.” Marvel’s momentum this year, fueled by “Brand New Day’s” run past $2 billion worldwide, has raised expectations that “Doomsday” could deliver the franchise’s biggest opening since “Endgame,” though industry watchers caution that early ticket pace is only one indicator of eventual box office performance.
