HBO and Sky released a first-look image Wednesday of Dominic West and Sienna Miller in “War,” a legal drama already locked in for two seasons before its October debut. The eight-episode series, created by George Kay, sets its opening arc around the collapse of a marriage between a tech billionaire and a film star, playing out through the rival law firms fighting to win it.
West plays Morgan Henderson, the tech titan, and Miller plays Carla Duval, his estranged wife. Their split serves as the entry point into a wider ensemble drama built around Cathcarts & Sons and Taylor & Byrne, two elite London firms whose partners treat the case as a reputational war as much as a legal one. Phoebe Fox and James McArdle play Serena Byrne and Nicholas Taylor, the partners at Taylor & Byrne, while Nina Sosanya and Pip Torrens play their counterparts at Cathcarts. Archie Renaux plays Jonathan “Johnny” Warren, a young lawyer pulled into the firms’ maneuvering as the case escalates.
Kay built his reputation on “Lupin” and “Hijack,” both known for tight plotting and morally slippery characters, and “War” leans into similar territory, framing divorce litigation as a blood sport where ambition doubles as currency. Marisa Tomei, Kelly Macdonald and David Harewood appear as guest clients, and the supporting cast includes Celia Imrie, Nick Mohammed, Emma Laird and Honor Swinton Byrne, among others.
“War” premieres Oct. 1 on HBO, with episodes rolling out weekly through HBO Max in the U.S. and other territories including Australia, Latin America and parts of Europe. Sky picks it up a day later for U.K., Irish and Italian audiences through its own platform and streaming service Now. Banijay-owned New Pictures produces alongside Observatory Pictures.
A second season has already been ordered, with the story shifting to a defamation case while keeping the same firms and the personal rivalries the first season sets in motion. The early renewal signals confidence from both networks in a format built to outlast any single case, with the courtroom serving as a stage for a rotating cast of high-profile clients and the lawyers circling them.
