Dafne Keen says people offered her cocaine at Hollywood wrap parties when she was 11, 12 and 13 years old, a claim the “Logan” star made on a podcast this week. Keen, now 21, discussed her childhood in the industry on the Nov. 3 episode of Michael Rosenbaum’s “Inside of You.” She has never gotten drunk enough to suffer a hangover, she said, calling herself a control freak about substances. Watching others use drugs as a child actor left her with no interest in trying them. “I was getting offered coke at wrap parties,” she said.
Rosenbaum asked how old she was at the time. “Tiny,” she replied, putting the ages at 11 to 13. She said she said no each time. Rosenbaum reacted with surprise, noting he did not even know what cocaine was until after college. Keen did not say who made the offers or which productions hosted the parties, and no studio or production company has responded publicly to her account.
She played the young mutant Laura opposite Hugh Jackman in the 2017 film “Logan,” shot in 2016 when she was 11. Keen described that set as a safe contrast. Jackman, she said, acted like a parent, made sure no one overworked her, kept the mood light and shielded her from tensions behind the scenes. She called him the best lead actor a young performer could hope for and credited his encouragement and advice.
Her comments add to a long-running conversation about how the industry treats minors. Child actors face adult workplaces, late-night events and pressure to fit in, and many have since described being exposed to alcohol and drugs while still in their early teens. Protections vary by production, and much depends on the adults in charge on any given set.
Keen’s career reached a wider audience after “Logan,” and she followed it by playing Lyra in HBO’s “His Dark Materials.”
