Production for James Gunn’s highly anticipated DC Universe series “Lanterns” is picking up speed, with the show set to bring a unique approach to superhero storytelling. The series will follow multiple Green Lantern characters as they investigate an intergalactic mystery, breaking away from traditional superhero narratives.

Actress Poorna Jagannathan recently shared her excitement about the project during an interview with Collider. Despite having limited experience with science fiction, she praised the script’s exceptional quality. “This is the first script that I’ve read that I understand why there’s an NDA,” Jagannathan said. “Everything is so insane – it’s the best writing I have ever read.”

The series will star Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, focusing on the Green Lantern Corps’ role as cosmic law enforcement. This detective-style approach aims to attract both dedicated DC fans and viewers who might typically avoid superhero content.

Camera testing is currently underway, with the production team carefully developing the visual style of the series. The show is scheduled to film from February through July 2025, with a planned premiere in 2026. Additional cast members include Garret Dillahunt and Kelly MacDonald, though details about their roles remain confidential.

Jagannathan highlighted the script’s accessibility, noting that it makes science fiction feel relatable even to those unfamiliar with the genre. “I don’t know anything about sci-fi, and I don’t care, actually,” she explained. “But this script makes sci-fi seem like my world.”

The series represents a significant evolution in superhero television, promising a more grounded and story-driven exploration of the DC Universe’s cosmic landscape. As production continues, “Lanterns” appears poised to offer audiences a fresh perspective on superhero storytelling.
