Actor Gabriel Macht, best known for his role as Harvey Specter in the hit legal drama “Suits,” is making headlines again after sharing candid insights about the show’s recent streaming success and his own life changes.
The series, which originally aired from 2011 to 2019, has experienced an unexpected resurgence on Netflix, breaking multiple streaming records in 2023. Its popularity has led to an interesting side effect: inspiring fans to pursue law careers.
“When people tell me they went to law school because of the show, I always apologize,” Macht told People Magazine. He wants viewers to understand that the glamorous portrayal of legal work on television differs significantly from real-world legal practice.
Macht humorously advises aspiring lawyers that the profession involves extensive reading and research. “If you like to read, that is great because you’re going to sit with a book for hours,” he explained.
The show follows Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams), a brilliant college dropout who becomes a high-powered attorney alongside Macht’s character in New York City. Its success has now led to an upcoming spinoff, “Suits: LA,” set to premiere on NBC on February 23, 2024.
In a personal update, Macht revealed that he and his family have relocated from Manhattan to an undisclosed location in Europe. The move came after feeling “stuck” during the Covid-19 lockdown. Despite the relocation, he remains connected to the entertainment industry, recently supporting London’s Park Theatre campaign.
“I don’t know if it was Netflix, or TikTok, or if the stars aligned,” Macht said, reflecting on the show’s recent popularity. He expressed excitement about the new spinoff, starring Stephen Amell and Bryan Greenberg.
The original series, which also featured Meghan Markle, Sarah Rafferty, Rick Hoffman, and Gina Torres, continues to attract new audiences on Netflix and Peacock, demonstrating its lasting appeal years after its initial run.
With its unexpected streaming renaissance and ongoing cultural impact, “Suits” remains a testament to the show’s enduring entertainment value.
