Netflix’s long‑gestating Assassin’s Creed series advanced this week as Deadline reported that writers‑producers Roberto Patino and David Wiener have been hired as co‑showrunners, replacing Jeb Stuart who exited in 2023 following creative differences.

Their arrival comes with a newly assembled writers’ room that includes Claire Kiechel, Jaquén Castellanos, Emily St. John Mandel, Sanaz Toossi, Sam Reynolds, Daniel Goldberg and Tom Hemmings, and the team is aiming for a 2025–26 release window.

Momentum has been slow: Ubisoft and Netflix first unveiled a multi‑series pact in October 2020, promising live‑action, animated and anime projects based on the blockbuster game franchise.

Under that agreement Ubisoft Film & Television executives Jason Altman and Danielle Kreinik serve as executive producers, describing the flagship drama as a “genre‑bending epic” designed to anchor the partnership. Assassin’s Creed remains one of gaming’s most lucrative properties, with more than 200 million copies sold since 2007.

The last major screen outing—a 2016 feature starring Michael Fassbender—fell flat with critics and fans, raising stakes for the new creative team to deliver a faithful adaptation.

Patino, known for Westworld, and Wiener, fresh off Halo, were brought in to realign the show’s tone after Stuart departed citing a mismatch between Los Angeles and London production visions.

Industry analysts note that the series fits inside Netflix’s wider push to build prestige television around recognized gaming intellectual property, joining upcoming projects such as the animated Splinter Cell: Deathwatch and Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft.

Fans greeted the writers‑room news with cautious optimism on social media, but insiders caution that scripting, casting, and schedule approvals still lie ahead before cameras roll.

Guild observers point to the mix of science‑fiction, historical drama, and genre credentials in the room as a potential safeguard against narrative drift that has challenged earlier adaptations of the franchise.
