Although it is already 2023, it is worth taking a closer look at Steam’s big review of 2022. Besides the most successful games of the past year, there is a ranking with the most played titles of the last twelve months, which is very interesting as well.
As is usual from previous reviews of this kind, the operators of Steam have also created several categories for this list. At the top is the Platinum section.
Here, only games that had a peak of at least 240,000 concurrent users at any point in the past year are represented.
Twelve titles in total made it into the Platinum category, among them the usual suspects like the MOBA Dota 2 or the multiplayer shooter Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. However, there are one or two surprises as well.
Among others, the slightly offbeat co-op game Goose Goose Duck from the indie team Gaggle Studios was able to move into the upper ranks of the ranking and thus compete directly with big AAA productions.
Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel is also one of the twelve most played titles of 2022 on Steam. The overview, incidentally, is in no particular order, meaning that there are no concrete rankings.

A year of records for Steam
The year 2022 was also a very successful one for Steam in general. Valve’s online platform set a new record in terms of user numbers several times over the past twelve months.
The peak so far was reached on November 27, 2022. For the first time, there were more than 31 million players active on Steam at the same time.
