Paramount has removed the still-untitled comedy produced by Kendrick Lamar and directed by South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone from its March 20, 2026 release slot, leaving the film without a new date. The shift was confirmed this week as the studio adjusted its 2026 calendar, and the production companies said the movie needs more time in post-production. Paramount has not offered a fuller explanation for the delay or set a replacement date.

The project has been in motion since 2022, pairing Lamar and his pgLang partner Dave Free with Parker and Stone under their Park County banner. Parker is directing from a script by Vernon Chatman, a longtime collaborator on their television work. After earlier timing changes, principal photography began in California in October 2024. The release plan has now changed twice: from a July 4, 2025 opening to spring 2026, and then to this open-ended postponement.

Story specifics remain largely unrevealed, but early descriptions outline a satirical plot in which a young Black man working as a slave reenactor at a living-history museum learns that his white girlfriend’s ancestors once owned his.

The premise suggests a film that aims to use sharp comedy to confront American slavery’s legacy and its modern echoes. That territory is sensitive, so the finished movie will likely face close attention for how it handles tone, character empathy, and the line between satire and shock. At the same time, the creative pairing has drawn curiosity because it merges Lamar’s socially pointed artistry with Parker and Stone’s long history of abrasive, politically charged humor.

For Paramount, the pause hits one of its few big original studio comedies in a slate packed with sequel-driven brands. The March 2026 date can be reassigned, while the filmmakers finish the cut and align on a fresh rollout. The next signals to watch for are a confirmed title, first footage that clarifies the movie’s comic style, and an updated theatrical date that shows where Paramount wants this collaboration to land.
