Disney’s “Zootopia 2” has crossed $1 billion in worldwide ticket sales, giving 2025 its third film to reach the mark after China’s “Ne Zha 2” and Disney’s live-action “Lilo & Stitch.” Industry estimates show the animated sequel has already climbed to about $1.14 billion globally, powered by a huge run in China and steady family turnout in North America and other markets.
Disney said the film was sitting at $986.1 million worldwide heading into Dec. 12 and expected to hit $1 billion after 17 days in release, a pace the company described as the fastest among PG-rated films and its Motion Picture Association–rated animated releases. The studio also framed the milestone as a theatrical win, with Walt Disney Animation Studios chief creative officer Jared Bush calling it “a shared experience” that audiences are choosing “on the big screen.”
China has done much of the heavy lifting. Disney reported an estimated $447 million there by Dec. 12, calling it the No. 2 MPA release of all time in the market behind “Avengers: Endgame.” By the end of the weekend, that China total had climbed to $502.4 million, according to studio estimates cited in U.S. box office reporting.
In North America, “Zootopia 2” reclaimed the No. 1 spot in its third weekend with $26.3 million. Domestic receipts sit just under $260 million, suggesting the sequel’s path to $1 billion has leaned far more on overseas play than the typical Disney Animation hit. That split arrives as studios chase reliable family audiences ahead of the year-end corridor, with major releases queued to crowd the calendar in the final weeks of December.
