Disney+ will begin streaming “Tron: Ares” on Jan. 7, 2026, giving the studio’s sci-fi sequel a quick pivot from theaters to subscription viewing. Disney+ said the platform will carry the film in IMAX Enhanced, including IMAX’s expanded aspect ratio, and that compatible home setups can access IMAX Enhanced sound powered by DTS.
The date locks in Disney’s home-entertainment cadence for the title. The film hit theaters Oct. 10, 2025, then moved to digital purchase on Dec. 2, with 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD arriving Jan. 6—one day before it lands on Disney+.
Directed by Joachim Rønning, “Tron: Ares” serves as the third film in Disney’s “Tron” franchise, sending a sophisticated program named Ares from the digital world into the real one. Jared Leto leads the cast alongside Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Jodie Turner-Smith, Hasan Minhaj, Arturo Castro and Gillian Anderson, with Jeff Bridges returning as Kevin Flynn. The score comes from Nine Inch Nails, a selling point in marketing that leaned hard on the series’ neon-and-noise identity.
The streaming move arrives after a theatrical run that started strong on the chart but raised questions about staying power. The movie opened at No. 1 domestically with $33.5 million, a figure analysts flagged as soft for a tentpole release. The critical response also split from viewer sentiment: Rotten Tomatoes listed a 53% critics score alongside an 84% verified audience score at the time of publication. The Disney+ debut now becomes the next test of how much this franchise still pulls once the ticket price disappears.
