Detroit-born comedian Ron Taylor has won the first season of Funny AF with Kevin Hart, beating out a field of more than 40 comics to claim a Netflix stand-up special and a coveted spot at the streamer’s most high-profile comedy event of the year.
Taylor was crowned during a live finale that aired Tuesday night on Netflix, with subscribers around the world casting real-time votes to determine the outcome. He prevailed over three finalists — Caitlin Peluffo, Usama Siddiquee, and Reg Thomas — in a competition that Hart said left him genuinely stunned. “Ron is such an amazing talent, he has a strong voice and I love his energy,” Hart said. “He is poised, polished, and now positioned to be a face that we will be seeing for quite some time. I am blown away at Ron’s win and we are all in full celebration mode.”
The series premiered April 20, 2026, with new episodes rolling out weekly before concluding with two live installments on May 4 and May 5. Guest judges across the season included Keegan-Michael Key, Tom Segura, Kumail Nanjiani, Chelsea Handler, and Nikki Glaser, with Chris Rock appearing for the semifinals — a surprise Hart teased to the remaining competitors on air before revealing his friend by name.
Taylor enters his Netflix chapter with a track record that sets him apart from most competition-show winners. He had already earned a paid regular spot at the Comedy Store in Los Angeles and been personally selected by Bill Burr for Comedy Central’s stand-up showcase The Ringers before the competition began. He describes his comedy as placing “a silly flair on serious things” — a style that proved durable across multiple rounds of increasing pressure.
As winner, Taylor will headline his own Netflix special and also appear as a special guest at The Roast of Kevin Hart, the centerpiece event of Netflix Is a Joke Fest 2026, airing live on May 10.
Funny AF was created by Hart with Hartbeat and Alfred Street Industries, built around Hart’s stated goal of discovering the next great comedic voice with the perspective and consistency to become a household name. Showrunners Bill Dixon, Liz Cook, San Heng, and Jason Raff guided the production, which drew its contestant pool from comedy clubs across New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago. The live voting format — first introduced by Netflix in January 2026 for Star Search — allowed subscribers worldwide to vote directly through their televisions or the Netflix mobile app.
Taylor is represented by Ethan Stern at Underscore Talent and Innovative Artists Entertainment.
