Jessica Lange told a New York audience Thursday that FX never provided rides home for the “American Horror Story” cast, a grievance she says still stings more than a decade after the third season wrapped. Speaking at a PaleyFest 2026 panel, the 77-year-old actress said the actors drove themselves to and from the set of “Coven” in New Orleans.
She recalled leaving work at 4 or 5 a.m., parking on a French Quarter street and finding her way home on foot. Lange called the lack of cars “a bone of contention” and put the blame on the network’s thrift, then added a sarcastic “thank you” to FX. A fan’s video of the moment has circulated widely online.
Sarah Paulson, seated beside her, said “oh yeah!” when Lange mentioned the drives, then laughed and covered her face as Lange called the production cheap. The room laughed along. Lange kept the complaint in proportion. She said elsewhere in the conversation that she had a good time on the season and called New Orleans a good place to shoot. FX had no comment.
The jab landed at a high point for the franchise. Lange stars in the show’s 13th installment, her first appearance since 2018’s “Apocalypse.” She won Emmys for her roles in the first and third seasons, and she plays all four of her original characters again: Constance Langdon, Sister Jude Martin, Cordelia Goode and Elsa Mars. A fifth, unnamed mystery character also appears.
Lange said the offer to revive those roles brought her back. She told “Good Morning America” the idea of reuniting the four characters drew her in. She had set a condition: she would return only if she could play all four. Lange and creator Ryan Murphy remain on good terms. Murphy has praised her repeatedly, and entertainment outlets see little chance the remark damages that bond.
