Robert Pattinson offered the first public comment on the halt in production of “The Batman Part II,” saying the team will pause briefly and then work out a plan, without giving a restart date.
Pattinson addressed the matter at the BFI London Film Festival, where he was promoting his new film “Primetime.” “We’re pausing for a little bit … and then we are going to figure it all out,” he said. He did not speculate on how long the break might last or whether the schedule would change.
The studio disclosed the pause on Monday, Oct. 5, saying production was temporarily halted while director Matt Reeves focuses on a family matter. DC Studios has said it is too early to determine whether the pause will affect the release date, and nothing suggests the film has been cancelled or that Reeves is leaving for good. Neither Reeves nor the studio has detailed the matter.
Work may not have stopped completely. ComicBookMovie reported apparent second-unit filming in London on Oct. 11, but that does not confirm the main unit has resumed.
The timeline carries stakes. The film is scheduled for Feb. 18, 2028, after earlier delays tied to the 2023 writers’ strike and the script’s development. Reports say the production includes extensive night shooting, which complicates scheduling. That date falls six years after the first film’s release, and fan anxiety has grown, with some social media users doubting it will ever come out.
Pattinson sounded confident about the end result. He told Official Pop Drop the sequel will differ from the first film, a change that surprised him, and that it takes large creative risks. The project sits within DC’s Elseworlds label, separate from James Gunn’s DC Universe.
